Body
Every student at NCCU will need a computer for their academic success. Here are some details to assist you in the process.

What if I am purchasing a laptop or have one that I want to use?
If you are considering shopping for a new or used laptop, or want to be sure the computer you have will do the job, the specifications below will be sufficient in ensuring your computer meets the minimum computer requirements to ensure efficient usage of campus resources.
Recommended Computer Specifications (Updated April 2025)
Operating System:
Windows 11 (latest version) or macOS Sonoma (or newer)
RAM:
16 GB recommended
Storage:
512 GB SSD or more recommended (256 GB minimum)
(SSD still essential for speed. More storage helps with software, files, and updates—many students run low with only 128–240 GB.)
Processor:
Intel i5 / AMD Ryzen 5 or higher
(Dual-core is outdated for most workloads; quad-core+ gives smoother performance and better longevity.)
Webcam:
Built-in webcam or external webcam required
(Essential for video calls, online classes, and proctoring tools.)
Warranty:
1-year warranty minimum (2–3 years preferred)
(Accidents happen—extended coverage is a wise investment.)
Other Considerations:
Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E support for faster and more reliable campus internet
At least one USB-C port for modern accessories and future compatibility
Battery life of 8+ hours recommended for all-day use on campus
