How-To Install Global Protect VPN for Working Remotely (Mac)

Summary

Global Protect is the system used to connect to the Virtual Private Network (VPN) at NCCU. A VPN provides an encrypted connection between your off-campus computer and the campus network. Members of the university community can use our VPN service at no cost to connect to some campus servers remotely while working from home.

Important: Before attempting to install and sign into Global Protect VPN, please ensure you have been approved for VPN access. If you do not have VPN access. please follow this link to request access ( https://nccu.teamdynamix.com/TDClient/1852/Portal/Requests/ServiceDet?ID=12307 )

Follow the instructions below to install and sign in to VPN access. 

1. Navigate to https://vpn.nccu.edu in your web browser.

2. Log in using your NCCU username and account password.  If you are required to authenticate using DUO (multi-factor authentication) to access the VPN, you will  prompted for your second factor.

3. Click 'Download Mac 32/64 bit GlobalProtect agent' and then 'save file' to download the
installer.

4. Run the downloaded file. You will need your computer's admin username and password to install.

5. Once the client has been installed, the Global Protect icon will appear in the
menu bar at the top of your screen. Click the icon to set up the VPN connection.

6. Type vpn.nccu.edu into the Portal Address field and click Connect.
Note: If the application stays on the Connecting screen and does not prompt for your
NCCU Username and Password, open System Preferences, navigate to Security &
Privacy and then General, unlock the settings page using your Mac's administrator
username and password, and then Allow the computer to load the Palo Alto software
(Global Protect).

7.  Sign in with your NCCU and password. Each time you log in, you'll receive a prompt to authenticate with Duo multi-factor authentication.
(check your phone or other multi-factor authentication devices for notifications).

8. Once you are connected to the VPN, the global protect icon in the menu bar will show a white shield.

9. You are now fully connected to NCCU VPN.
