How To: Add a Reminder for your Email Recipients in Outlook (Outlook Desktop Client Only)

If you want to keep your email from getting lost in someone else's overflowing inbox, here's one trick you can try in Outlook: setting a response reminder for your recipients.

The following video is a helpful Outlook 365 tip for adding a reminder for email recipients. The recipient will receive a reminder on the date and time you set. 

Note: This will only function through the Outlook Desktop Application. The Outlook Webmail does not include this feature of sending reminders to recipients


 

  • Compose your email in Outlook
    Start a new message and draft it as usual.

  • Navigate to the “Options” tab
    At the top of the compose window, select Options.

  • Choose “Delay Delivery” or “Follow Up”

    • Click Delay Delivery to set a specific time the email will be sent, or

    • Click Follow Up → Add Reminder to flag the message.

  • Set reminder details
    In the dialog:

    • Enable “Flag for recipients”

    • Choose a reminder date and time so they'll be prompted to reply.

  • Finish and send
    Once configured, click Send. The email is sent, and the recipient will see a pop-up reminder at the selected time.
