As part of North Carolina Central University's wireless infrastructure upgrade, new wireless network names (SSIDs) are being introduced across campus to provide improved performance, security, and reliability.
As upgrades are completed across campus, the new wireless networks will become available, and the legacy wireless networks will be gradually decommissioned. All students, faculty, staff, and guests should begin using the appropriate new wireless network as soon as it is available.
Available Wireless Networks
NCCU
Recommended for: Students, faculty, and staff
Use this secure wireless network with most modern laptops, smartphones, and tablets. This is the preferred network for university-owned and personal devices that support current wireless security standards.
NCCU-WPA2
Recommended for: Older devices
Use this network if your device is unable to connect to the NCCU network due to compatibility with older wireless security standards.
NCCU-BYOD
Recommended for: Personal Devices
Use this network for personal devices that cannot authenticate using the standard secure network, including:
- Smart TVs
- Gaming consoles
- Streaming devices
- Smart speakers
- Other personally owned network-enabled devices
NCCU-Visitor
Recommended for: Campus guests
Provides Internet access for visitors who do not have NCCU credentials.
What You Need to Do
- Connect to the appropriate new wireless network when it becomes available in your building or area.
- Select the SSID that best matches your device type and security compatibility.
- Verify your connection before disconnecting from the legacy wireless network.
- Remove the old wireless network (SSID) from your device after successfully transitioning to prevent connection issues.
