DUO 2-Factor Authentication

What is DUO (two-step) authentication?

DUO Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a security mechanism designed to add an extra layer of protection to the traditional username and password online identification method. By requiring two forms of verification, DUO 2FA ensures that the chance of unauthorized access to an account is significantly reduced. Here's a brief description of its importance:

  • Enhanced Security: DUO 2FA significantly reduces unauthorized access by requiring a password and a physical device for account login.

  • Protection Against Phishing: It safeguards against phishing by making compromised passwords insufficient for account access.

  • Compliance and Data Protection: DUO 2FA helps NCCU adhere to data protection laws by securing sensitive information.

  • User-Friendly: The interface is straightforward, promoting widespread adoption without complicating login processes.

  • Versatile Application: It secures various platforms within NCCU, ensuring uniform security across digital resources.

Getting Started with DUO Mobile App Enrollment (New Users)

  1. Smartphone or Tablet: Utilizing the DUO Mobile app on a smartphone or tablet is highly recommended for enrolling your device. This approach is the most preferred and convenient for verifying your second authentication factor. With the app, you can approve authentication requests via push notifications, free of SMS charges. If selected, the app generates a 6-digit code you can enter manually.

  1. Basic Cell Phone: This option is viable for phones that cannot run the DUO Mobile app but can receive SMS messages. DUO will send a 6-digit code via text message. Be aware that your phone plan's text messaging rates might apply.

Note: NCCU does not support authentication via office desktop phones.
