What if I do not have a smartphone for MFA?
If you do not have a smartphone or cannot use the Microsoft App, the “Additional Method” option for office phones is the first or preferred method of authentication. The additional second factor would be an alternate phone.
Note: Using office phones for MS MFA is not recommended as it ties the authentication process to a physical location, limiting access when you are away from the office. Additionally, it poses a security risk if the office is unattended, as anyone with access to the phone could potentially receive authentication requests. |
How often will I get MFA notifications?
Desktop applications, such as Outlook and Teams, will normally only prompt you to approve new logins or if you make changes to your account, such as a password change. Web-based services, such as O365 will prompt you more regularly. If you receive unexpected Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) prompts without trying to log in, it could mean your account is at risk. Should this happen, immediately deny the MFA request, update your password, and reach out to ETAC for support.

What happens if I save my credentials in my browser?
When you save your username and password in your web browser, it can be convenient for quick access to websites and services without manually entering your login information each time. However, there are some implications to be aware of:
-
Risk of Security Breaches: Saving credentials in your browser poses a security risk. If someone gains access to your computer or device, they may be able to access your accounts without needing your password.
-
No Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): If you have Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) enabled for your NCCU account, saving your credentials in the browser may bypass the additional security layer provided by MFA. This means that even if you change your password, the browser may still use the old saved password, leading to account lockouts.
-
Password Changes: When you change your NCCU password, the saved credentials in your browser may become outdated. If your browser tries to autofill your old password, it will result in login failures and potential account lockouts.
What should I do if I've saved credentials in my browser?
If you've saved your NCCU credentials in your browser and you're planning to change your password or use MFA, follow these steps to avoid account lockouts:
-
Clear Saved Passwords: Before changing your password, clear any saved passwords related to your NCCU account from your browser's settings. This ensures your browser won't use outdated credentials.
-
Update Credentials: After changing your password, manually enter the new password when prompted by your browser. Avoid allowing the browser to save your new password.
By following these steps, you can maintain the security of your NCCU account and prevent potential login issues associated with saved credentials in your browser.
