Current North Carolina Central University Students can rent a laptop by simply checking one out at the Eagle Technical Center (ETC) on the first floor of
the James E. Shepard Library.
Overview of Laptop Policies
- Available to currently enrolled students. A valid NCCU Student ID is required;
- Laptops are rented on a first come, first serve basis. A limited number of laptops are available;
- The maximum rental period is 1 month; fines will be assessed for late returns; Rental periods can be renewed in person at the ETC desk.
- The borrower will be charged for missing parts or damage caused to any part of the laptop, battery pack, or power/recharging unit;
- All laptops are ready to work with wired and wireless networks and include carrying cases. Students may install software and connect external devices (printer, USB drives).
- You are responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged equipment. Any damages noticed prior to or during use must be reported immediately to the ETC desk, 919-530-5038 or in person.
Software Installed
Each Dell laptop includes the following: Windows 10, Microsoft Office 2016 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access); LoJack and antivirus protection; Internet Browsers, Carrying Case, Battery, and AC Adapter.
Each MacBook laptop includes the following: OS X El Capitan, Microsoft Office 2016 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access); LoJack; Internet Browsers, Carrying Case, Battery, and AC Adapter.

The cost for this service is as follows: $50.00/week. Sales tax of 7% will be added to all rentals. Payment can be made with by credit card only. No cash will be accepted.
MacBook Laptop this service is as follows: $55/week. Sales tax of 7% will be added to all rentals. Payment can be made with by credit card only. No cash will be accepted.

Laptop Renter Responsibilities
- I agree to complete the rental process.
- I agree to return the laptop as required, at the end of the agreed-upon rental period.
- I agree to provide written notice to the Eagle Technical Center (ETC) of any address or phone number changes.
- I agree to be responsible for any lost, stolen, or damaged equipment.
- I agree to report any damage to the equipment to the ETC immediately.
If I fail to comply with the above responsibilities, I acknowledge and agree that:
- I must pay the replacement cost of the computer ($1500.00 – Dell; $2500.00 - Mac)
- I am subject to a $25 per day late penalty should the rental period be exceeded.
- I will be charged a fee based on actual repair costs for any needed repairs caused by damage, abuse, or misuse.
- At the end of the rental period, I must return the laptop and assorted peripherals to the Eagle Technical Center (ETC) in the same condition as on the agreement beginning date, notwithstanding any reasonable wear and tear.
- Failure to return the equipment may result in my being disciplined pursuant to the Student Code of Conduct and subject to criminal prosecution or civil liability.
- A hold/charge of the $1500 will be placed on my banner account if the laptop and/or given accessories are not returned.
